Why aren’t you linking pictures? It amazes me how often bloggers fail to do some simple things that add a lot of search engine optimization punch to their blogs. This blog’s take is on what we do with pictures. Here’s the story.
Pictures add a lot of class to a blog article, and help us get across the point of our blog. When done right, they will also help to draw people back to read again, because the site looks so professional. Often though, people forget to add links to those pictures, which can really help to draw traffic to your website.
For many, the main website for a business is separate from the blog site. Many people use Blogger or WordPress to help draw traffic to their main website. (Probably need to blog on this too some day!) Links back to the main website will draw people there. But few remember to do the same thing with the pictures they place in the blog.
There is an almost irresistable urge to click pictures. If you system allows you to do so, put a link back to your main website, or a landing page for sales. All of these links help to add SEO valaue to your main website. More importantly though, it can draw readers there. So, why aren’t you linking pictures?
Happy blogging! Link em!

Good advice on linking picture on blogs for SEO
ReplyDeleteGood tip - the more relevant links you can put in without annoying your readers the better, so there's nothing better than an invisible picture link!
ReplyDeleteSo where's the picture on this blog post then? Just saying! Good post otherwise
ReplyDeleteGood point above but if you look at their new post on web design (http://tiny.cc/bnyal) it looks like SEO experts Australia are starting to take their own advice.
ReplyDeleteRecursive link isnt much good, but a link via something like Tiny (which gives you a different URL for the same link) will count as an entry from a different source I think.
ReplyDeleteI love Tiny! http://tiny.cc/n8gw7
ReplyDeleteSeriously tho, picture links are a good solution to the problem you pointed out in one of your previous posts (How Important Are Links? http://tiny.cc/297c0). The good thing about image links is they're not as intrusive as text ones, but it's effectiveness really depends on where you link the pic.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, just realised I made up two different fake names for the last two posts. They're the same person I promise!
ReplyDeleteThey? So what's your real name Nick/Charlie? Is revealing your first name on an SEO blog about linking pictures so dangerous?
ReplyDeleteIt’s all very well saying linking pictures but to where? The source of the pic (e.g. to show a larger one) or to a more useful location? What if you don’t have one?
ReplyDeleteMore useful place if you have one, pic link if you don't Id have thought
ReplyDeletePicture link is useless - links are only useful if they go somewhere you want people to go!
ReplyDeleteI am linking pictures, thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteHaha Dean, it is a bit accusatory isn't it!?
ReplyDeleteI don't know why i'm not linking pictures. I'll sort myself out, i promise.
